Job Description: Fashion Universe Lead

Function: Business Development

Reports To: Head of Business Development

About S&S

S&S is a vertically integrated textile solutions provider based in Ruiru, Kenya. We design, produce and distribute textile consumer solutions in Sub-Saharan Africa under our butterfly®, texStyle® and Asili brands. Our purpose is to Empower Africa's Potential and Authenticity. We are a team of purpose-driven individuals committed to proactive solutions that make customers feel valued and fulfilled.

The Opportunity

A Business Development leadership opportunity to build preference and demand across S&S's brands, universes and markets. This is a shared brand capability serving the universe teams, with a clear line from positioning and activation to customer and community response, customer acquisition and repeat demand.

Leadership Mandate

  • Set the brand architecture and clarify each universe's customer promise, differentiation, audience and reasons to choose S&S.
  • Translate customer, field and user insight into positioning, stories, visual and experience standards, content, collateral and sales tools.
  • Lead the Brand team's content, digital and sales-enablement work.
  • Build direct connection and feedback with communities including fashion buyers, knitters, crocheters, Maasai and Kikoy users.
  • Test brand activation against quality leads, customer engagement, preference, conversion and repeat demand.

Core Responsibilities

1. Brand Architecture and Positioning

  • Build a clear, usable brand framework across Fashion, Maasai, Kikoy, HKY, MKY and other priority universes.
  • Define each universe's customer promise, audience, differentiation and reasons to choose S&S.
  • Create practical standards that help teams make consistent decisions without slowing execution.

2. Customer, Community and Trade Intelligence

  • Establish direct feedback loops with customers, communities, field teams and partners.
  • Understand what different users value and where current propositions, products, launches or routes are unclear.
  • Turn insight into decisions on positioning, stories, experience, content, products and activation.

3. Activation, Content and Sales Enablement

  • Lead content, digital and sales-enablement priorities against defined commercial outcomes.
  • Equip universe leads, field teams and partners with propositions, collateral and tools they can use consistently.
  • Improve launch quality, market readiness, customer response and field adoption.
  • Test before scaling and stop activity that does not produce useful customer or commercial signals.

4. Measurement and Cross-Universe Capability

  • Build a monthly view of quality leads, engagement, preference, conversion support, adoption and repeat-demand contribution.
  • Work jointly with universe and market leads while maintaining clear ownership boundaries.
  • Build Brand team capability, prioritisation and follow-through across multiple routes to market.
  • Maintain consistency without forcing different universes into identical activation models.

Role Ownership and Cross-Functional Partnership

Brand Lead owns: The shared brand framework, architecture, positioning, customer promises, activation standards, content and digital priorities, sales enablement, community feedback systems and brand measurement.

Universe and market leads own: Customer relationships, commercial targets, revenue, GP and cash. They shape plans jointly with the Brand Lead and remain accountable for commercial conversion. The Brand Lead provides the capability that creates clearer value and stronger pull.

Monthly Accountability

  • Priority propositions: progress and adoption of distinct, usable propositions for selected universes.
  • Customer and community insight: quality, frequency and application of direct feedback.
  • Sales enablement: completion, usefulness and adoption of tools by field teams, partners and universe leads.
  • Activation performance: quality leads, engagement, preference signals, conversion support and repeat-demand contribution.
  • Content and digital: delivery against agreed priorities and evidence of customer response, not output volume alone.
  • Launch execution: readiness, consistency, field adoption and post-launch learning.
  • Cross-universe service: stakeholder priorities, decision turnaround and delivery reliability.
  • Brand team capability: clear ownership, quality standards and reduced dependence on the lead.

First 90-Day Proof Window

Performance will be reviewed in six two-week cycles, followed by a final consolidation window to Day 90. Each cycle must show evidence and decisions, not activity alone.
